Marymount College Announces New Vice President


President Michael Brophy of Marymount College has announced the appointment of Brenda Solomon, Ed.D, as vice president for the college’s office of development. Solomon will begin at the college on July 16.

Most recently, Solomon served eight years as the senior director of development for the Oklahoma State University Foundation, Stillwater, OK raising more than $60 million for the university. Prior to that, she worked in a variety of professional roles for 10 years at the university in the area of continuing education and outreach.

“I look forward to working with the Marymount fundraising team to create opportunities for individual, foundation and corporate donors to provide transformational gifts that will benefit both the faculty and students of Marymount College,” said Solomon.  read full story

The Fourteenth Intentional Conversation

On Monday, June 18, Marymount College hosted the Fourteenth Intentional Conversation at the beautiful Huntington Library & Botanical Gardens. More than 100 people participated in this summer's Conversation, which focused on the theme "Can We All Get Along? The Challenges to Civil Discourse and Mutual Respect." A distinguished and diverse panel of experts shared their perspectives and observations on the topic. Rob Eshman, Publisher & Editor-in-Chief of the Jewish Journal, participated in the Intentional Conversation and shared his experience in his weekly column, click here to read his article. Marymount Receives Bold Vision Award!


Marymount College President Michael Brophy accepted the Bold Vision Award from the San Pedro Chamber of Commerce at its Annual Luncheon, Board Installation and Awards Ceremony at the Doubletree Hotel on June 15, 2012.  Pictured with Dr. Brophy (center) is San Pedro Chmaber of Commerce’s Chairman of the Board Anthony Pirozzi and Chamber CEO Betsy Cheek. The College received this honor in recognition of the establishment of the Marymount College Waterfront Campus in the historic district of San Pedro. Dr. Brophy also serves on the Board of Directors for the San Pedro Chamber.

Marymount College Announces MOU with County of Lake College campus to be located within Lucerne Hotel


On Saturday, June 9, the Marymount College Board of Trustees unanimously approved a memorandum of understanding with the County of Lake, Calif., to pursue planning for a college campus to be located at the historic Lucerne Hotel. The Board’s decision follows the Lake County Board of Supervisors’ unanimous approval of the MOU on Tuesday, June 5, during its meeting.

Marymount College president Dr. Michael Brophy described the ability to develop the college in Lake County as an extraordinary opportunity.

“We plan to begin serving a few students in the fall,” said Dr. Brophy. “However, we will be working over the next year to develop curriculum and programs that best serve the needs of students and the community in Lake County.”

Rob Brown, chair of the Lake County Board of Supervisors, said, “We are very fortunate to be working with the leadership team of Marymount College. Over the past several months, they really have demonstrated their commitment to Lake County.” read full story

Lives Interrupted: The Takuma Ito and Go Matsuura Story


"Lives Interrupted: The Takuma Ito and Go Matsuura Story" is scheduled to play on October 24 at the Warner Grand Theatre in San Pedro as the last presentation in the upcoming fall edition of the Ito/Matsuura Film Series. Produced and directed by Marymount Professor Bruce Schwartz, the film reflects on the shooting of two film students who were gunned down in a robbery in 1994. The Ito/Matsuura Film Series honors their memories with an annual series of the best in independent cinema. View the trailer.
