Rise and Dream Documentary

Come to the Grand Annex (434 West 6th Street) for this unique global studies and media opportunity. Home to one of the world's oldest documented conflicts, the southern Philippines is also a place of tremendous religious and cultural diversity. Follow the story of 13 teenagers who accept a challenge to learn their own cultural instruments in order to perform a concert for peace. The students rise above their obstacles as they explore the music of their ancestors. As the community mobilizes to support the concert, the expected attendance for the show triples in size, and the pressure begins to mount. Despite the uncertainties of their daily life, the students in Rise and Dream show extraordinary resilience as the concert blooms into a celebration and becomes a reminder of the power of dreams in us all. Ask questions of the filmmakers who will also perform some of the musical pieces. Sponsored by Campus Ministry and Student Life. Monday, Sept. 10th Grand Annex in San Pedro 6 pm.
